Reviews: ask, never pay

Why a website can link to customer reviews, but should never offer anything in return for one, and what that means for a shop owner.

Why reviews matter#

When someone looks for a shop online, they often want to know what other people thought before they visit. Reviews answer that question in a way that a shop's own description cannot. A customer who writes a review is describing what happened to them, in their own words, and a reader can judge that for themselves.

For a shop owner, reviews are useful information about the business. They show where the service is working and where it is not. A pattern of comments about slow queues or unclear signs is something an owner can act on. A website that makes it easy to find reviews helps the next visitor decide, and it also helps the owner see how the shop is seen from outside.

Ask, never pay#

There is a clear line between asking a customer for a review and rewarding them for one. A site can invite people to share their experience. It should not offer anything in exchange for writing something positive, and it should not hand out anything to people who leave a review at all. The moment a reward is tied to a review, the review stops being an honest account and becomes a transaction.

This matters because a reader who notices a paid or rewarded review has no reason to trust the others. The simplest rule is to ask people to write what they actually thought, good or bad, and to leave the wording entirely to them. A shop that handles reviews this way keeps its page honest, and that honesty is the thing that makes reviews worth reading at all.

What the site shows#

A DISPO page can point visitors to reviews that already exist elsewhere, and it can explain how a visitor reaches them. The page itself does not need to summarise, rate or highlight reviews in a way that pushes readers toward a conclusion. Its job is to point clearly to where the reviews live and to let the reader judge them.

Thai rules limit how cannabis may be advertised, so check your plans with a lawyer. A DISPO page is built to stay within those limits by leaving out the details that the rules restrict. Review links are a plain pointer rather than a claim, but how any particular page is read is a question for a qualified lawyer, not for this site.

Keeping it honest#

Honesty is the simplest guide here. Ask customers for their view, do not reward them for a particular view, and let the reviews stand as they are written. A shop that follows this approach builds a record that visitors can rely on over time, rather than one that looks polished but cannot be trusted.

If an owner ever feels pressure to trade something for reviews, it is worth stepping back and asking what the review is really for. Its value lies in being an honest report from someone who was there. Protecting that value is good for the shop, good for the reader, and good for the long run of the business.
