Opening hours, kept true

A wrong opening time can cost a customer a trip, so a website should keep one accurate set of hours and show whether the shop is open right now.

Why wrong hours cost a visit#

A person who plans a visit often checks the hours first. If the listed times are out of date, they may arrive to find the door closed. That wasted trip is a small cost to the customer, but it leaves a poor impression of the shop. They may not try again, and they may not trust the next thing they read on the same site.

Hours change more often than most owners expect. A public holiday, a staff shortage, a longer lunch break or a change in season can all shift the times. When the hours live in several places, such as a paper sign, a message thread and a web page, one of them is usually wrong. The problem is not carelessness. It is the simple fact that the same information has been written down more than once.

One set of hours#

A website can hold one true set of opening hours and show that set everywhere it appears. The owner updates the hours in one place, and the site displays them. This removes the need to remember which copy is current. The same principle applies to a short description of the shop, which the site can show alongside the hours so that a visitor sees the basic facts together.

To make a change, an owner can use a short form. It asks for a one-line description, the opening hours and a note about the change. The change is then placed on the site.

The open-now line#

Every site shows the opening hours and whether the shop is open now. The open-now line answers the question a visitor is really asking, which is whether they should set out today. It is computed from the hours on file, so it changes as the day goes on without anyone having to edit it by hand. A visitor who sees that the shop is open can decide quickly, and one who sees that it is closed can plan for another time.

The open-now line is only as good as the hours behind it. That is why the single set of hours matters. An owner who keeps those hours accurate gets a line that reflects the shop as it really is. An owner who lets them drift will see the same mistake repeated on the page, in plain view of every visitor who checks.

Rules and keeping it true#

Thai rules keep a number of things off a cannabis shop's page, and a website for such a shop should be read with those limits in mind. Opening hours and a short factual description are a different matter from advertising, but where the line falls is a question for the owner. An owner should check with a lawyer before publishing anything, and should not rely on this post for that judgement.

Keeping the hours true is a habit rather than a one-off task. A sensible routine is to review the hours whenever they change and to confirm the open-now line matches what the door shows. An owner who does this will rarely see a visitor turn away at a closed door. The aim is simple: one set of hours, kept accurate, shown clearly to anyone who asks.
