Linking your Maps listing to your site

Adding your website to your Google Maps listing takes a few minutes, and checking the link works means opening it from the listing itself.

A Google Maps listing is often the first thing a person sees about a shop. It shows the address, opening hours and a set of photos, and it usually has a field for a website. When that field is empty, the person has to guess what else is available. When it points to a clear site, they can read about the branch before they visit.

The link is most useful when the site it points to is accurate and matches what the listing says. If the hours differ, or the address belongs to a different branch, the visitor loses trust quickly. So the link and the listing should be treated as one job, not two.

Where to add the website#

To add a website, open your business profile in Google Business Profile, choose the info or edit section, and find the field labelled website. Type the full address, beginning with https. Save the change and wait for it to appear. This can take some time, so do not worry if the link does not show straight away.

If you run more than one branch, each branch needs its own listing and its own entry in the website field. A shared link is possible, but a page for each branch helps people find the right address and hours. Check that each listing points to the page for that branch rather than to a general home page.

After you save, check the link yourself. Open the Maps listing on a phone, tap the website button, and confirm that the correct page opens. Try it on mobile data as well as on Wi-Fi, because a page that loads at the office may behave differently for a visitor elsewhere. Look at the address bar to make sure it starts with https and is spelled correctly.

Next, read the page as a visitor would. Check that the name, address and opening hours on the site match the listing. Check that the page loads quickly and that the words are easy to read on a small screen. If anything is wrong, fix the site first, then check the link again. Repeat this check every few months, and after any change to your hours or address.

A note on preview sites#

A DISPO preview is kept at its own address and is free to use while it stays there. You can link to it from your listing to test how it looks, but it is kept out of search results until you claim it. Claiming the site is what allows it to be found by search engines, so think about this before you rely on the preview address for a live listing.

If you later want the site at your own domain name, you can move it there. Thai rules limit how cannabis may be advertised, so check your plans with a lawyer before you publish any wording about your shop.
